Getting Started
What is SpokenAct?
SpokenAct is an AI-powered voice notes app for iOS. You record a voice memo, and SpokenAct automatically transcribes it on your device, then uses AI to generate a summary, extract action items, add smart tags, and detect dates. Everything becomes searchable and organized without any manual effort.
How do I start recording?
Open SpokenAct and tap the large record button on the main screen. Speak naturally — SpokenAct captures everything in real time. When you are done, tap stop. Your recording is instantly transcribed on-device, and you can choose to generate an AI summary right away or save it for later.
Do I need an account?
Yes, a free account is required to use SpokenAct. This allows your notes to sync securely and enables AI features. You can sign up with your email in under 30 seconds. We never share your information with third parties.
AI Features
How does AI summarization work?
After your recording is transcribed on-device, SpokenAct sends the text transcript (not your audio) to our secure AI service powered by GPT-4o Mini. The AI analyzes the text and returns a concise summary, action items, key points, and topic tags — all in a few seconds. You choose when to trigger summarization.
How accurate are the summaries?
Summaries are generated by GPT-4o Mini and are highly accurate for capturing the key ideas and intent of your recording. They work best when you speak clearly about a focused topic. For longer, multi-topic recordings, the AI does a strong job of separating themes and pulling out the most important points.
What are action items?
Action items are tasks or to-dos that the AI detects in your recording. If you say something like "I need to email Sarah about the proposal" or "remind me to buy groceries," SpokenAct extracts those as checkable action items. You can tap to mark them complete directly in the app.
What are smart tags?
Smart tags are topic labels that the AI automatically assigns to each note based on its content. For example, a recording about a work meeting might get tagged "work," "project update," and "Q2 planning." Tags make it easy to filter and search your notes by topic without any manual organization.
Privacy & Data
Is my data private?
Yes. Transcription happens entirely on your device using Apple's built-in speech recognition. Your audio never leaves your phone. Only the text transcript is sent to our AI service for summarization, and only when you explicitly choose to generate a summary. We do not sell or share your data.
Where is my audio stored?
Your audio recordings are stored locally on your device. They are not uploaded to our servers. The text transcripts and AI-generated summaries are stored securely in your account on our cloud database (powered by Supabase) so they can be accessed reliably and backed up.
Does SpokenAct use my data to train AI?
No. Your transcripts and recordings are never used to train AI models. When we send your transcript for summarization, it is processed and the result is returned to you. The data is not retained by the AI provider for training purposes.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. You can delete individual notes at any time within the app. If you want to delete your entire account and all associated data, go to Settings and tap "Delete Account." This permanently removes all your recordings, transcripts, summaries, and account information from our systems.
Pricing & Subscription
Is SpokenAct really free?
Yes. Recording and on-device transcription are completely free with no limits — forever. You also get 3 free AI summaries to try the premium features. After that, AI summaries, action item extraction, smart folders, and weekly insights require a subscription.
What happens after I use my 3 free AI summaries?
After your 3 free AI summaries, you will be prompted to start a subscription to continue using AI features. You can choose weekly ($4.99/week), monthly ($9.99/month), or annual ($59.99/year) — all with a free trial. Recording and transcription remain free regardless.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel anytime through your iPhone's Settings app under Subscriptions. There are no cancellation fees or penalties. Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period.
What happens to my notes if I cancel?
All of your recordings, transcripts, and previously generated AI summaries remain in your account. You keep everything you have already created. You just will not be able to generate new AI summaries until you resubscribe. Recording and transcription continue to work for free.
Troubleshooting
Transcription is not working. What should I do?
First, make sure you have granted SpokenAct microphone and speech recognition permissions in your iPhone's Settings. Go to Settings > SpokenAct and ensure both "Microphone" and "Speech Recognition" are enabled. Also check that you are not in a very noisy environment — on-device transcription works best in quiet to moderate settings. Restarting the app can also help.
My AI summary is not generating. What is wrong?
AI summarization requires an internet connection. Check that you are connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data. If you are on the free tier, confirm you have not already used your 3 free AI summaries — you can check this in Settings. If the issue persists, try closing and reopening the app, or contact us at support@wiscai.com.
The app seems to be using a lot of storage. How can I manage it?
Audio recordings are stored locally on your device and can take up space over time, especially for longer recordings. You can delete individual recordings you no longer need from the note detail screen. Go to your notes list, swipe left on a note, and tap delete. Only the local audio file is removed — your transcript and summary remain in your account.
